My Go-To Blackberry Compote

A rich, jammy blackberry compote that comes together in minutes. I use this in my lemon blackberry cake, but it’s also unreal over yogurt, pancakes, or just straight from the spoon.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
2–3 tbsp sugar (adjust based on sweetness)
1 tbsp lemon juice
Splash of water (optional, if needed)
Directions
Add the blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice to a small saucepan over medium heat.
As the berries begin to heat, gently mash them with a spoon to release their juices.
Let the mixture simmer for 8–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and jammy.
If needed, add a small splash of water to loosen the texture.
Remove from heat and let cool — it will continue to thicken as it sits.
