My Go-To Blackberry Compote

PREP TIME: 5 MIN
COOK TIME: 10 MIN
TOTAL TIME: 15 MIN

A rich, jammy blackberry compote that comes together in minutes. I use this in my lemon blackberry cake, but it’s also unreal over yogurt, pancakes, or just straight from the spoon.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries

  • 2–3 tbsp sugar (adjust based on sweetness)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Splash of water (optional, if needed)

Directions

  • Add the blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice to a small saucepan over medium heat.

  • As the berries begin to heat, gently mash them with a spoon to release their juices.

  • Let the mixture simmer for 8–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and jammy.

  • If needed, add a small splash of water to loosen the texture.

  • Remove from heat and let cool — it will continue to thicken as it sits.

    Enjoy!
